Setting Up Your Utilities
Local Utility Companies
When you move into an apartment, you should have the utilities turned on in your name. If you request service, notify the utility company at least one week in advance of the date you need service to start. Your landlord may handle municipal services such as water, sewer, and garbage collection for you, though they are not required.
